The network's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
