Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Songs About Manager Chris Wilder
The striker is now a member of Sheffield United only half a year following leading disrespectful taunts directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has signed a agreement with the Championship club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year spell with Leeds finished amicably in August.
Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting insulting songs about Chris Wilder during Leeds' success festivities this spring. Currently, the one-cap England international will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to rescue the team he loves out of the drop zone.
Previous History Involving Bamford & Wilder
The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds moved up back to the Premier League last season and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
Everything appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement in attack while Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.
The song about Wilder gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel too and had a half-hour chat with him and he's a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that’s an integral part of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Recent Playing Struggles
Bamford made 18 games for Leeds last season however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough striker has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
