Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
