Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
